FAA ANNOUNCES OCAS AS THE FIRST AVWS INSTALLED, TESTED AND APPROVED FOR USE IN THE NATIONAL AIRSPACE
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently published a memo announcing the approved use of Audio Visual Warning Systems (AVWS) in the National Airspace System (NAS) and the administration's intentions to update Advisory Circular 70/7460-1K, Obstruction Marking and Lighting, the recommended marking standards for obstacles that penetrate the NAS.  Click here to read the full article.  Click here to view the FAA memo.

FAA ANNOUNCES OCAS AS THE FIRST AVWS APPROVED IN THE NATIONAL AIRSPACE
In a recent FAA memo, the FAA announced intended changes to the AC 70/7460 to incorporate Audio Visual Warning Systems (AVWS).  The memo then goes on to state "OCAS is the first AVWS to be installed, tested and approved in the National Airspace System (NAS)".

LIGHTPOLLUTION.ORG.UK RECOGNIZES OCAS
Under the Late Breaking News Section.  LightPollution.org.uk mentions OCAS as a sollution that "This leaves the nighttime sky free of unnecessary light pollution thus decreasing public annoyance issues while improving the environmental habitat." Now that really sounds fantastic.

NATIONAL EMS PILOTS ASSOCIATION FILES OCAS RECOMMENDATIONS WITH THE NTSB
The National EMS Pilot's Association filed a letter that recommends that "The FAA should expedite its inclusion of OCAS like systems into the Advisory Circular 70/7460 in an expeditious manner.  The updates should include both the visual and audio components of the solution.  NEMSPA views the audio component as having the most critical life saving capability."  The letter was submitted to the NTSB and FAA as part of the NTSB Emergency Medical Services Helicopter Operation Safety Public Hearings held in February 2009.
